SAUBHAGYALAKSHMI UPANISHAD
Rigveda
group of Upanishads – shakta
The First part
- The gods asked Bhagavan: O Bhagavan! Tell us the knowledge of Saubhagya Lakshmi.
- Bhagavan Adi Narayana answered them: Listen and hear, O ye gods, about (the Goddess) Sri, the form of Creation, transcending Turiya, the All-surpassing, the Dweller in all mantras and asanas, surrounded by pithas, minor pithas and deities, four-armed, contemplated with the fifteen riks (of the hymn) “Hiranyavarn…”
- Now (about this hymn). (This hymn, called) Sri Sukta, consisting of fifteen riks, has the rishis Ananda Kardama, Chiklinata, the Son of Indira. The metrical measure of the three riks beginning with “Hiranyavarn…” is anushtubh. (In rik) “kamso’smi…” is the metrical size of brhati, Between them is trishtubh, and the eight subsequent (riks) anushtubh. The remaining ones are prastarapankti. Deities are Sri and Agni. “Hiranyavarn…” is a bija, “kamso’smi”… is shakti. Nyasa of the six parts of the body (shadanga nyasa is performed with mantras composed of the names) Hiranmaya, Chandra, Rajatasraja, Hiranyasraja, Hiranya, Hiranyavarna in the dative case, beginning with pranava and ending with “NAMAH”.
- Dwelling in a pure lotus, the color (like) a heap of silver, Holding in (two) lotus hands a lotus, in the other two (hands) gestures of fearlessness, Adorned with many colorful ornaments and jewels, Mother of the whole world, constant homage to Sri!
- Her pitha: in the corolla the Sri bija is collected, in the eight and twelve (petaled) lotuses in each part (is placed) half (of each) rik of Sri sukta. Outside - purity with matrix. Having drawn this ten-membered sacred yantra, one should invoke (in it the Goddess) Sri. The first enclosure is the shadanga, the second (deities) beginning with Padma, the third the lokapalas, the fourth their weapons. (Then follows the puja), invocation, etc. with (recitation of) the Sri sukta and japa (of the Sri sukta) sixteen thousand times. -
- Her pitha (consists of) eight petals, three lines, twelve spokes, and a square. This is the Rama pitha. In its corolla, her shaktis are worshipped: Kanti, Srishti, Kirti, Sankita, Vyushti, Utkrishti, Riddhi. These nine shaktis should be worshipped in the dative case, beginning with pranava and ending with NAMAH. This is the first anga (puja). The second (includes the worship of Vasudeva, etc. The third (includes the worship of Balaka, etc. The fourth - Indra, etc. Japa (is) twelve lakhs (million thousand times).
- Mantras for worship of Lakshmi starting with pranava and ending with NAMA: Sri, Lakshmi, Varada, Vishnupatni, Vasuprada, Hiranyarupa, Swarnamalini, Rajatasraja, Swarnaprabha, Swarnaprakara, Padmavasini, Padmahasta, Padmapriya, Muktalankara, Chandra, Surya, Bilvapriya, Ishvari, Bhukti, Mukti, Vibhuti, Riddhi, Samriddhi, Krishna, Pushti, Dhanada, Dhaneshwari, Shraddha, Bhogini, Bhogada, Dhatri and Vidhatri. Pitha, angaa (nyasa), etc. are the same as those of Ekakshara (the syllable OM). Japa is one lakh. A tenth part (of this amount) is Tarpana, a hundredth part is a fire sacrifice, a thousandth part is for the satisfaction of the twice-born (Brahmins).
- The siddhis of Sri Vidya are obtained only in the absence of desires, they never appear in the presence of desires.
The Second Part
Then the gods said: Tell us the Truth defined as the fourth in relation to Maya. On this (Bhagavan) said:
- Yoga is attained by Yoga, Yoga comes from Yoga, and even the Yogi who has not attained Yoga (completely) will be happy for a long time.
- Ending sleep early, eating moderately, fresh food, casting aside fatigue, in a secluded place, without (quenching) thirst, one should indulge in the constant practice of holding the breath.
- Having inhaled through the mouth, and retaining the prana in the region of fire, one should close the six openings with the thumbs, as well as the palms: the eyes, the ears and the nostrils. In this way each part of the pranava is seen. (Of the many types of) dhyana that contribute to the dissolution of the mind, this is the best.
- Closing the ears, mouth, eyes, nostrils, one should listen to the nada arising in the pure flow of sushumna.
- He who listens in anahata to the diversity of sounds becomes the owner of a divine body, divine radiance, divine aroma and health.
- Having begun (to listen to nada) in the space of the open heart, the yogi becomes united (with Ishta devata). At the second stage, he rushes to the center. The yogi, being in asanas, in padmasana, etc., becomes stable in asanas. Then, after cutting Vishnu-granthi, Supreme Bliss (Ananda) arises. -
- (When) the emptiness (of anahata) is overcome above, the sound of the kettledrums arises. When the third (knot) is cut, the sound of thunder arises.
- Then the prana moves to the Great Void, the Abode of all perfections. Then the breath of the bliss of the mind is cut.
- When the sound of Vishnu arises, it sounds like a bell. This state of mind is called Unity by Sanaka and other sages. Passing from the level of duality to (the level of) non-duality, contemplating the world of prakriti and fulfilling the prescribed duties, (the yogi) becomes immortal.-
- Ascending to yoga by means of yoga, discovering Being by Being, thoughtlessly abiding in thoughtlessness, in unity with the inexpressible Supreme Truth, (the yogi) becomes It.
- The knower, having got rid of the (false) sense of "I", having known the Peerless Being of the universe, abiding in the ineffable, will not grieve again.
- As rivers rush into the ocean, becoming one with it, so (there is) the unity of the mind and the Atman. (This) is called samadhi.
- When prana dissolves and the mind dissolves, then (there comes) Unity, which is called samadhi.
- The unity of jivatma and Paratma with the complete destruction of desires is called samadhi.
- Continuous Light, Emptiness, absence of mind, absence of buddhi when there is absence of all this, it is called samadhi.
- When the embodied moving in his own body in constant samadhi knows that it is motionless, it is called samadhi.
- Wherever the mind goes, there is the highest place, and there is the Supreme Brahman, who is everywhere.
The Third part
Then the gods said: "Tell us about the distinction of the nine chakras. To this (Bhagavan) said:
- At the base (of the spine) one should contemplate the first chakra, which is thrice spirally wrapped by Shakti, (who is) in the form of fire. There is also Kamarupa Pitha, which gives (fulfillment) of all desires. Such is the adhara chakra.
- The second, svadhishthana chakra (has) six petals. In its center one should contemplate a lingam like a sprig of coral, facing the east. There resides the uddiyana pitha, which gives the siddhi of enchanting the entire universe.
- In the middle (of the body) one should contemplate the third, Manipura chakra. It is wrapped five times by Kundalini, the Samarthya shakti, sparkling like lightning and ten million suns, giving all perfections.
- The heart chakra (has) eight petals. In its center one should contemplate Hamsa kala in the form of a jyotir lingam, facing downwards, beloved by all, enchanting all worlds.
- The throat chakra (has) four corners. In it resides on the left – ida, the lunar nadi, on the right – pingala, the solar nadi. In the center one should contemplate sushumna, white in color. Whoever knows this, anahata will bestow perfection on him.
- In the palatine chakra, containing amrita, marked (by the sound) of a bell containing two petals, one should contemplate the lingam of Emptiness, there the dissolution of the mind occurs.
- The seventh chakra (is) between the eyebrows. In it is the eye of Knowledge, the size of a thumb, in the form of a flame of a lamp, it should be contemplated in the parietal suture. (Then the yogi will gain) vak siddhi. This is ajna chakra.
- (Follows) “The Gate of Brahman,” the nirvana chakra. In it one should contemplate the abode of the teacher in the form of a smoky flame. There (is) the jalandhara pitha, which gives liberation. This is the Brahma randhra chakra.
- The ninth is the akasha chakra. In it (is) a sixteen-petalled lotus, facing upward. In the center of it one should contemplate a corolla in the form of a triangle. In it (is) the Supreme Shakti, the Great Emptiness. There (is) also the Purnagiri pitha, which facilitates the attainment of all desired perfections.
- He who studies “Saubhagya Lakshmi Upanishad,” becomes purified fire, becomes purified wind, becomes learned, endowed with all wealth, good sons, sin-destroying, trees, cattle, bulls, servants and maidservants. He does not return back. This is the Upanishad.
