The current palace of Maharaja of Mysore 'Amba Vilas' was started to build in 1897 and finished in 1912. Later it was expanded in 1940. Mysore Palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions of India after the Taj Mahal, with more than 2.7 million visitors a year. Despite the fact that the palace is open to tourists, it is prohibited to photograph inside, the cameras must be deposited to the storage room. The price of visiting for foreign tourists is 200 Indian rupees, for Indians - 40. All visitors are obliged to take off their shoes before entering the palace.
About 10 years ago, the palace illumination was switched on for half an hour on Saturdays and on holidays. After the launch of the project of the sound and light show, the palace is illuminated three minutes after the show, and is no longer covered on Saturdays. Also, the illumination is included on Sundays and holidays at 7 pm for 45 minutes. Those who wish can order the illumination of the palace within half an hour for 50,000 rupees (about 777 U.S. dollars in mid-2017).
