Ekakshara Upanishad
Krishnayajurveda
group of Upanishads – pure Vedanta
Hari Om Tat Sat!
1. Thou art the one Indestructible and Imperishable, united with Uma. Sushumna has made us know that here (in the phenomenal world) the only unchanging principle is Thou. Apart from Thee there is nothing real. Thou art the ancient source of the whole world, the supreme God of all beings; Thou art Parjanya (i.e. the life-giving water), Thou art the Protector of the world.
2. Thou art in everything; the wise say that Thou, the Lord of the whole universe, art the all-knowing Fire. Thou art the unborn primordial God; Thou art the first-born; and the sacrifice is also Thou. It is Thou who art omnipresent and the most ancient.
3. Thou art the Essence of life; and Thou art the manifestation of that life-force; Thou art the source of the world; with one fourth of Thyself Thou pervadest this world. You have created the world, You are its cause, You are the divine life, You are the child in the womb, armed with the excellent bow and arrow.
4. Spreading your arrow-rays in all directions, shining like the young sun in the sky, You shine like Hiranyagarbha. You have generated the effulgent eagle (i.e. the sun) from the light in the sky. You are Subrahmanya; You are Arishtanemi (brother of Garuda).
5. You hold the vajra/thunderbolt (i.e. You are Indra), the Lord of all beings; You alone are love in all living beings and in Soma (Shiva with Uma). You are the sacred syllables Svaha, Svadha and Vasat; You are Rudra, who dwells unharmed in the hearts of animals.
6. You are the supporter, the distributor, the purifier (wind), the all-pervading abundance, the divine Varaha, the night and solitude; the past, the future and the present; You are all actions, You are time, succession and the supreme Imperishable (Brahman).
7. Vedic verses, prose mantras and songs flow from Your mouth. You shine like the Vasus and the heavens. You are the priest, the all-pervading fire and Rudra. Thou art also the hosts of the Asuras and the Vasavas.
8. That God is in the sun (which is the wheel of the divine chariot) and in other places, dispelling darkness. All that belongs to Him shines with splendor like gold in the highest sky.
9. He is the all-knowing; the Protector of the world; the firm support of all born beings. He exists lengthwise and crosswise, the totality of everything, arranged in its place. He is the unborn subject of the divine births of Prajapati, sung in the Vedas.
10. Thou art He whom the Brahmavids worship by performing sacrifices and singing Vedic songs and hymns, performing rituals and pouring out the Soma libation; Thou art the ultimate Truth, free from all admixture (ignorance); You are superior even to gold in absolute value; You are the best of the knowers of the Veda.
11. You are both man and woman; You are both boy and girl. You are the distributor (of karmic fruits); You are King Varuna, You are the Year, You are Aryama, You are ALL.
12. You are Mitra, You are the one adorned with effulgence (Garuda), You are the moon, Indra, Varuna, Rudra, Twashtar, Vishnu, Savitar, the Lord of Light. You are Vishnu, who protects righteous people from demons; the whole world is encompassed and permeated by You; You are the source of everything that is born; You are the earth, the atmosphere/ether, the firmament; You are the self-born; You are the many-faced God, who sees everything and hears everything.
13. He who thus knows the eternal Dweller in the cave (of the heart), the ancient God who has become all (beings), the golden one, the supreme goal of the wise, the wisest one, possesses the supreme divine Wisdom. Such is the secret doctrine of the Upanishads.
Hari Om Tat Sat!
Thus ends the Ekakshara Upanishad of the Krishnayajurveda.
