Brahmavidya Upanishad
Krishnayajurveda
group of Upanishads – yoga
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti
I proclaim the science of Brahman, Who is omniscient, Who is higher than the highest. Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshvara are the beginning, the middle, the end. Vishnu, who subdues His wonderful power-energy, periodically becomes incarnate in human form (as an Avatar) – thus He shows His compassion to people. This (His) secret, like the shining fiery OM, is contained in the science of Brahman.
The syllable OM is Brahman. It is in this way that seekers of Brahman are taught; the body, the location, the time and the disappearance of this syllable – all this I will explain.
I – the body or sariram of the sound OM: There are three Gods and three worlds, three Vedas and three fires, three moras and a half mora. (All this exists) in That triple, the blissful (Brahman). The Rigveda, Grahapatya, the Earth and God Brahma – these are the body of the sound “A”, as explained by the knowers of Brahman. The Yajur Veda and the middle space, the fire Dakshina and the holy God Vishnu – these are the sound “U”, declared to us (by the knowers of Brahman). The Veda itself and the Heavens, and also the fire Ahavana and Ishvara, the supreme God (i.e. Maheshvara), – such is the sound “M”, declared to us (by the knowers of Brahman).
II – the location or sthanam of the sound OM: In the middle of the cerebral concha, like the sun's radiance, shines “A”. Within this is the sound "U", like the brilliance of the moon. The sound "M" is also like fire without smoke, like a flash of lightning. Thus the three moras shine, like the moon, the sun and fire. Above them is a blazing point, like the light of a torch. Know it as the half mora which one places above the syllable.
III is the final stop or kala of the sound OM: And again, like the finest flame, like the fiber of the lotus, shines the Sun – like the cerebral artery, passing through it, OM penetrates (everywhere). Through the Sun and the seventy-two thousand arteries, it breaks through the head and becomes the source of bliss (for all people), permeating the entire Universe.
IV – the passing away, disappearance or laya of the sound OM: And as the sound of a metal vessel or gong dies away in silence, so let the seeker of Brahman let the sound OM disappear (dissolve) in silence. That in which the sound disappears is Brahman, the Supreme God. Yes, all sounds (or: the whole sound) are Brahman, which leads to Immortality.
Thus ends the Brahmavidya Upanishad of the Krishnayajurveda.
