SAVITRI UPANISHAD

Sama Veda
a group of Upanishads – pure Vedanta

  1. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? Agni is Savitar, the earth is Savitri, Where Agni is, there is the earth, where the earth is, there is Agni. These two are a womb, a single pair.
  2. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? Varuna is Savitar, water is Savitri, Where Varuna is, there is water, where water is, there is Varuna. These two are the womb, one pair.
  3. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? Vayu is Savitar, space is Savitri. Where Vayu is, there is space, where space is, there is Vayu.
  4. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? Thunder is Savitar, lightning is Savitri, Where there is thunder, there is lightning, where lightning is, there is thunder. These two are the womb, one pair.
  5. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? The sun is Savitar, the sky is Savitri, Where the sun is, there is the sky, where the sky is, there is the sun. These two are the womb, a single pair.
  6. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? The moon is Savitar, the constellations are Savitri, where the moon is, there are the constellations, where the constellations are, there is the moon. These two are the womb, a single pair.
  7. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? Mind is Savitar, Speech is Savitri, Where mind is, there is speech, Where speech is, there is mind. These two are the womb, one pair.
  8. Who is Savitar, who is Savitri? Man is Savitar, woman is Savitri, Where man is, there is woman, Where woman is, there is man. These two are the womb, one pair.

This (Savitri) first pada is earth (BHUR). That desired Savitar (TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM) is fire, The desired one is water, The desired one is the moon.

This (savitri) has a second pada filled with light (air space BHUVAR) – "The effulgence of God (which) we contemplate" (BHARGO DEVASYA DHIMAHI) effulgence is fire, effulgence is the Sun, effulgence is the moon.

This (Savitri) has a third pada – the sky (SVAH). "May He direct our intelligence" (DHI YO NACH PRACHLODAYAT). These are the Woman and the Man. Who knows their fertilization as Savitri, he will conquer repeated death. (In the Mantra) of Bala and Atibala Virat is Purusha (rishi). Gayatri is a metrical measure. Deity – Gayatri, Initial bijas – the syllable A, the syllable U and the syllable Ma. Usage – to stop hunger, etc. Shadanga nyasa with six vowels – beginning with the bija KLAM.

AUM hrIM bale mahAdevi hrIM mahAbale klIM

caturvidhapuruShArthasiddhiprade tatsaviturvaradAtmike

hrIM vareNyaM bhargo devasya varadAtmike atibale sarvadayAmUrte

bale sarvakShudbhramopanAshini dhImahi dhiyo yo no jAte pracuryaH

yA pracodayAdAtmike praNavashiraskAtmike huM phaT svAhA ||

OM. HRIM! O Power, Great Goddess! HRIM O Great Power! KLIM O Giver of perfection in the four goals of human life! O Blessed Essence of That radiant Savitar! HRIM O Blessed essence of the Desired, the light of God. O Extraordinary Power! O All-Merciful Form! We contemplate You, O Power ending all hunger and delusion. THAT which generates excess, may our mind be directed by the Essence of pranava (OM) and “head” (APO JYOTI RASO MRITAM BRAHMA) HUM PHAT SVAHA!

Whoever knows (this mantra), he has fulfilled (all) duties. He will be born in the world of Savitri.
